Duke Of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme at Totnes Progressive School

In 2018 Totnes Progressive School started offering the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) programme to its students. We offer the Bronze and Silver Awards to our Year 9, 10 and 11 students.

What is the DofE?

A life-changing experience. A fun time with friends. An opportunity to discover new interests and talents. A tool to develop essential skills for life and work. A recognised mark of achievement; respected by employers.
The DofE is many things to many people, supporting generations to successfully navigate adult life.
Young people can do a DofE programme at one of three progressive levels which, when successfully completed, leads to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

What does DofE involve?

There are four sections to complete at Bronze and Silver level. They involve helping the community/environment, becoming fitter, developing new skills, planning, training for and completing an expedition.

Who can do DofE?

Any young person can do their DofE – regardless of ability, gender, background or location. Achieving an Award isn’t a competition or about being first. It’s all about setting personal challenges and pushing personal boundaries.

Where does the expedition take place?

We currently run the expeditions in South Devon, making the most of our fabulous and varied natural environment. Young people complete the expedition as part of a team, helping each other to navigate, pitch tents, cook, problem solve and many other things!

What about DofE at Totnes Progressive School?

We are very proud of the DofE provision here at TPS. Many of our students have opted to complete DofE and they were even able to continue working towards their Awards during lockdowns! Additionally, the percentage of our students that complete their Awards is above the national average and that is down to our students’ dedication and perseverance.

How do I, or my child, get involved?

Simply get in touch with Simon (simon@top-school.co.uk), the DofE manager here at TPS. He’ll explain everything and help you, or your child, get started on the DofE adventure!
