Safeguarding & Child Protection at Totnes Progressive School
Totnes Progressive School fully recognises its responsibilities for safeguarding children. Our policy applies to all staff and volunteers working in the school. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility and as such all staff and volunteers are required, at all times, to consider what is in the best interest of the child. We maintain an attitude of ‘It could happen here’ where safeguarding is concerned.
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children (those under the age of 18) is defined as: protecting children from maltreatment; preventing impairment of children’s health or development; ensuring that children can grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.
Here are some useful conversation starters and activities that you can do at home for discussing internet safety, social media etc with your children and here is a helpful article about what to do if your child sees something inappropriate.

The NSPCC has dedicated helplines for reporting abuse
We are an operation encompass school, meaning that we are notified if police have been called to one of our students houses due to an incident of domestic abuse. This is so that we can support our students the next day at school and we can give them the safe place they need.
