GCSE Results 2022

At Totnes Progressive School, we focus on high standards and expectations around effort and dedication. Experienced and nurturing staff help every student develop strong academic skills, enthusiasm for learning and love for their subjects. Small classes, led by passionate teachers, ensure that all students experience lessons tailored to their specific needs and requirements. We work with a respectful and encouraging approach which aims to reduce exam pressure and stress. This enables the students to focus on their education and engage with lessons in a mindful and balanced manner. We pride ourselves on the outstanding examination results all GCSE students have achieved from our inception, up to the present day.
Our Year 11 cohort are celebrating excellent results in their GCSE examinations. Following a tumultuous two years during which they have had to navigate lockdowns, master online learning and battle covid infections they have worked with determination and zeal securing fantastic results across all subjects achieving an overall pass rate of 96%.

Head Teacher, Laura Manley, said “I would like to congratulate our year 11 students on their fantastic results. They have shown great determination and resilience throughout a very challenging period of disrupted study. Sitting formal examinations is always a daunting experience and our students are to be commended on their fantastic work ethic. Achieving strong results across all subjects with 85% of students receiving grades 5 - 9 is remarkable.”

87% of students secured 5 GCSE Grades 4 - 9 including Maths and English

92% of English Language students secured grades 5 and above
95% of English Literature students secured grades 5 and above with 40% securing the top grades
100% pass rate for Art, Music and Drama
100% of students passed Combined Science & Computer Science
100% of students passed Modern Foreign Languages (French & Spanish)
85% secured Grades 5 - 9 in Geography
55% of students in Physics secured grades 8 & 9

Deputy Headteacher, Simon Bowley, said “I have been enormously impressed with the resilience and strength of character our students have demonstrated. The last two years’ lockdowns and societal restrictions have been a great challenge for them, not just for their formal schooling but for their chances to socialise and develop friendships. Our students have persevered and we are immensely proud of not only their GCSE successes but their kindness, compassion and drive. I wish our Year 11 students the very best for the next stage in their lives and I very much look forward to them returning to us with news of their endeavours!”
