Safeguarding & Child Protection at Totnes Progressive School

Totnes Progressive School fully recognises its responsibilities for safeguarding children. Our policy applies to all staff and volunteers working in the school. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility and as such all staff and volunteers are required, at all times, to consider what is in the best interest of the child. We maintain an attitude of ‘It could happen here’ where safeguarding is concerned.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children (those under the age of 18) is defined as: protecting children from maltreatment; preventing impairment of children’s health or development; ensuring that children can grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

Operation Encompass

We are an operation encompass school, meaning that we are notified if police have been called to one of our students houses due to an incident of domestic abuse. This is so that we can support our students the next day at school and we can give them the safe place they need.
